What is Hakua Kai Karate-Do?
Hakua Kai Karate is a traditional form of Karate-Do originated in Japan; meaning “pure.” Developed by Shihan Katasushi Iwabuchi, Hakua Kai Karate-Do is a combination of Jujitsu, Shotokan Karate, and Wado Ryu Karate. Shihan Iwabuchi incorporated the different strengths of his top students; creating a unique discipline that utilizes both the hands and feet while emphasizing body position and switching techniques. “Kara” (empty) “Te” (hand) “Do” (worldview or way) – The way of the empty hand is comprised of formal calisthenic exercises called Kata, controlled application of fighting technique called Kumite, and the etiquette and discipline called Bushido.
What is the “Theme” Approach?
We take a different approach to martial arts for kids. Instead of the boring “class after class after class” approach, we mix it up and have fun with specific themes that cover specific skills during a period of time.
At The Dojo™ we meet twice per week. At the end of each month we have an exam for rank advancement. This approach works well for several reasons.
- It is in sync with other activities and sports that have “seasons”
- A theme approach can cover specific content without repeating the same thing week after week, boring for both the students and the instructors.
- This short “term” keeps your costs down and your child’s attention and engagement up!
- Progress is much more effective in this method and much more obvious to the child so they feel great about it.
Requirements to Test?
Your child must attend at least 12 classes to be eligible to take the exam and for rank promotion.
If your child starts mid-program or misses more than two classes, they can make up those class requirements during the next Program Session and then be eligible to test. So if you have travel plans or other conflicts, it’s no problem at all.
Our Guarantee
That’s right, we want you and your child to be thrilled with The Dojo™ and to put our money where our ki-ai is, we’ll refund your registration fee if you don’t agree.
Here’s how it works:
- Register for two months.
- Child attends two months of classes.
- Not happy, Money back! No questions.
What Happens When My Child Ages Out?
The classes are grouped by age, not rank. This is a very important part of our teaching methodology. It is of great benefit for newer students to see those who’ve advanced and to train in a mixed environment. When your child turns 14, they will then move out of the Samurai Program and into the Adult Program. Until that time, they will continue forward in the Samurai curriculum.
