What is Hakua Kai Karate-Do?
Hakua Kai Karate is a traditional form of Karate-Do originated in Japan; meaning “pure.” Developed by Shihan Katasushi Iwabuchi, Hakua Kai Karate-Do is a combination of Jujitsu, Shotokan Karate, and Wado Ryu Karate. Shihan Iwabuchi incorporated the different strengths of his top students; creating a unique discipline that utilizes both the hands and feet while emphasizing body position and switching techniques. “Kara” (empty) “Te” (hand) “Do” (worldview or way) – The way of the empty hand is comprised of formal calisthenic exercises called Kata, controlled application of fighting technique called Kumite, and the etiquette and discipline called Bushido.

What is the “Theme” Approach?
We take a different approach to martial arts for adults. Instead of the boring “class after class after class” approach, we mix it up and have fun with specific programs that cover specific skills during a fixed period of time. Think of it like college. You register for a semester and then you get specific classes and outcomes. But with our school you can drop-in too!
At The Dojo™ we meet twice per week. At the end of each month we have an exam for rank advancement. This approach works well for several reasons.
- A theme approach can cover specific content without repeating the same thing week after week which allows you to learn the basics without getting bored.
- A focus on specific content, rather than rote repetition gives you exposure to a concentration area for each session so achievement and skill retention increase significantly.
- Progress is much more effective in this method and much more rewarding.
- This approach gives you much more control over your pace of learning.
- It can be really rewarding to have the extra class where your whole family can do a short, exciting workout together!
Requirements to Test?
You must attend at least 12 classes to be eligible to take the exam and for rank promotion. The exams are designed to be challenging but very fun and rewarding. Family and friends are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Our Guarantee
That’s right, we want you will be thrilled with The Dojo™ and to put our money where our ki-ai is, we’ll refund your registration fee if you don’t agree.
Here’s how it works:
- Choose your level
- Register for a session
- Attend all classes during that session
- Not happy, Money back! No questions.
