What is our History?

Hakua Kai Karate is a traditional form of Karate-Do originated in Japan; meaning “pure.” Developed by Shihan Katasushi Iwabuchi, Hakua Kai Karate-Do is a combination of Jujitsu, Shotokan Karate, and Wado Ryu Karate. Shihan Iwabuchi incorporated the different strengths of his top students; creating a unique discipline that utilizes both the hands and feet while emphasizing body position and switching techniques. “Kara” (empty) “Te” (hand) “Do” (worldview or way) – The way of the empty hand is comprised of formal calisthenic exercises called Kata, controlled application of fighting technique called Kumite, and the etiquette and discipline called Bushido.

Assertive Living Leads to Success!

Utilizing the methodology of success, our philosophy is to give all our students as many opportunities to succeed as possible. This doesn’t just mean a “chance” to succeed, it means that every class, lesson, and exercise is designed so that you will succeed. We learn best by doing what rewards us the most. The incentive to become internally motivated is driven by the short term successes that can be designed in each lesson.

Sensei Eric is great with kids! My son Hunter really enjoys his style of teaching. Keep up the great work!

Laura

Our philosophy is to teach mastery, not compliance or imitation. A physical and mental art requires modification, adaptation and eventually customization. There is no “one, right way” at The Dojo™. The belts represent objective accomplishment but also reflect attitude, problem solving, and courage.

This is a place where discovery and creativity thrive…while at the same time, a high level of focus and engagement is required of each student. Every class is a challenge. Every minute in The Dojo™ is about learning.

What Sets Us Apart…

Our Guarantee!: That’s right, we want you will be thrilled with The Dojo™ and to put our money where our ki-ai is, we’ll refund your registration fee if you don’t agree. Here’s how it works:

Choose your level (click here)

Register for a session

Attend all classes during that session

Not happy, Money back! No questions.

Theme Based Curriculum: We teach in distinct themed classes that are designed to give you exactly what you’re looking for – fitness, challenge, focus, and clear progress. You can start any time!

Age-appropriate Instruction: We avoid using four letter words like “don’t,” “can’t,” and won’t” which often negate building a student’s confidence. Encouraging our students with “Positive Dialogue Response” and our “success methodology” is the key to our mission statement: Inspiring success in every student!

Success-based Teaching Method: Aside from targeted verbal praise, our younger students earn stickers, patches, extra credit for community involvement & good grades, as well as stripe tips on their belts to reward and reinforce their best efforts. Our more mature students get the ultimate affirmation: achieving the goals they set!

Certified Black Belt Instructor: Sensei Eric Beck is not only a great martial artist, black belt registered in Japan, but is also a state accredited K-12 instructor with a degree in secondary education and over 17 years teaching experience. He’s a father of four and a decorated competitor.

Internationally Recognized Black Belt Rankings: When students earn a black belt at The Dojo™, they are directly linked to an unbroken chain of teachers that stretches back nearly 100 years to the founder of our style. At our school your belt rank really means something.

Our Environment: We pride ourselves on creating a relaxing, comfortable community space for all of our families and friends. Our goal is to give you the best place in Roxborough to experience your own success. Conveniently located in Roxborough Park (Littleton, CO), why make a long drive? We’re right here for you!
